‘Promising Young Woman’, ‘Mank’ Among Art Directors Guild Awards Nominees
BY SCOTTIE KNOLLIN
The Art Directors Guild announced the nominations for the upcoming 25th ADG Awards, which celebrate excellence in production design.
The ADG Awards will take place during a virtual ceremony on April 10, 2021.
The feature film categories are split between Period Film, Fantasy Film, and Contemporary Film. Among those nominated are titles like “Promising Young Woman", “Mank”, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, and “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”.
Traditionally, winners of the ADG Award have gone on to win the Oscar for production design. More recently, this has occurred with the films “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “The Shape of Water”, which won the ADG Award for Period Film. Fantasy films “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Black Panther” have also won the ADG Award before winning the Oscar. In 2017, “La La Land” won the ADG Award for Contemporary Film before winning the production design Oscar.
Ryan Murphy was previously announced as this year’s recipient of the Cinematic Imagery Award.
