Cinema 100 Winter & Spring Slate Includes NDFS Winner “Aftersun”

Film fans in Bismarck/Mandan have the chance to see under-seen and diverse films on the big screen thanks to Cinema 100 Film Society, a non-profit that hosts screenings at Bismarck’s Grand Theatres.

Films screen on Thursdays at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Admission for the series can be purchased in-person ahead of screenings.

January 12 - The Beta Test

2021; Dir. Jim Cummings and PJ McCabe
Synopsis: “An engaged Hollywood agent receives a mysterious letter for an anonymous sexual encounter and becomes ensnared in a sinister world of lying, infidelity, and digital data.”

January 19 - Petite Maman

2021; Dir. Céline Sciamma
Synopsis: “Nelly has just lost her grandmother and is helping her parents clean out her mother's childhood home. She explores the house and the surrounding woods. One day she meets a girl her same age building a treehouse.”

January 26 - Aftersun

2022; Dir. Charlotte Wells - Winner of the NDFS Award for Best Picture
Synopsis: “Sophie reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father twenty years earlier. Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn't.”

February 2 - Emily the Criminal

February 9 - The Perfect Candidate

Synopsis: “A young woman separated from her lover by war faces a life-altering decision.”

March 9 - Funny Pages

2022; Dir. Owen Kline
Synopsis: “A bitingly funny coming-of-age story of a teenage cartoonist who rejects the comforts of his suburban life in a misguided quest for soul.”

March 16 - The Tragedy of Macbeth

2021; Dir. Joel Coen
Synopsis: “A Scottish lord becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife supports him in his plans of seizing power.”
