For its second outdoor movies series of the season, Downtown Fargo’s Broadway Square is collaborating with North Dakota Film Society to celebrate Hollywood voices from North Dakota.

NDFS helped curate the list of films being screened, including recent favorites and film classics.

Each title features a performance by an actor or actress from North Dakota:

  • July 1: Lady and the Tramp (1955); features Jamestown’s Peggy Lee in several voice roles, most notable that of both Siamese cats. The film was a box office success and marked the first time an animated film was filmed in the CinemaScope widescreen film process.

  • July 8: Twilight (2008); features Dickinson’s Kellan Lutz as Emmett Cullen, the vampire brother of Robert Pattinson’s Edward. Based on the hit bestselling book series, the film earned over $393 million at the worldwide box office and was followed by four sequels.

  • July 22: Transformers (2007); features Minot’s Josh Duhamel as Capt. William Lennox, the leader of the Army Rangers in Qatar. Directed by Michael Bay, the film was the first live-action film based on the popular Transformers toy line and grossed over $700 worldwide. The film earned Academy Award nominations for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. The film has been followed by four sequels and a spin-off film.

  • July 29: Rio Bravo (1959); features Kulm’s Angie Dickinson as Feathers. Based on the short story by B. H. McCampbell, the film was directed by the famed Howard Hawks and features one of the most memorable performances in John Wayne’s career. In 2014, the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry. For her performance, Dickinson won the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer - Female.

The event is FREE and features local food and beverage vendors. Broadway Square is also centrally located to a number of Downtown Fargo’s best restaurants, most of which offer full menus to-go. NDFS will present trivia from 6pm-7pm each evening for those who get to Broadway Square early. The film will begin promptly at 8pm. Follow Broadway Square on Facebook for updates.
