Fargo-Moorhead LGBT Film Festival Announces Student Filmmakers Workshop

The Fargo-Moorhead LGBT Film Festival is excited to announce the first LGBTQ+ Student Filmmakers Workshop. Five Junior or Senior high school students will be selected to receive a scholarship for a free intensive workshop to produce their own narrative, documentary, experimental, or animated short film. The student films will premiere this September at the 13th annual Fargo-Moorhead LGBT Film Festival at the Fargo Theatre.
The LGBTQ+ Student Filmmakers Workshop is designed to inspire the next generation of Queer filmmakers. In a safe and empowering environment, students will have the opportunity to lift their creative voices by creating a narrative, documentary, experimental, or animated short under the mentorship and guidance of an established LGBTQ+ Filmmaker.
As part of the workshop, each year a different LGBTQ+ filmmaker will be invited to Fargo-Moorhead to share their talents and experience with students. The guest filmmaker for 2021 is Ace Steele. Originally from Rochester, MN, Steele is a recent film production graduate at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She aims to make films that impact the audience and make them think about what they are watching. Her latest film CLOSE TO HOME tackles the subject of the LGBTQ+ community and the importance of acceptance within society.
Five students will be selected to receive scholarship funding to learn about the history and importance of Queer Cinema, and get hands-on training of the entire production cycle: Pre-production, where ideas are born and put onto paper; Production, where the lights go up and the cameras roll; Post-Production, where the magic happens and everything comes together into one solid film; and the Distribution process where the film is released into the world.
The program is completely free for those students who participate. Scholarship applications are excepted online through midnight on Friday, June 11. The workshops begin on Monday, June 21.

The mission of the Fargo-Moorhead LGBT Film Festival is to bring relevant and current queer cinema that highlights the lived experiences of the LGBTQ+ community to the northern communities of Fargo, North Dakota, and Moorhead, Minnesota. The 13th annual festival will take place at the historic Fargo Theater from September 15-18, 2021.
