Remembering Brittney Goodman, NDFS Member
BY SCOTTIE KNOLLIN
Brittney Goodman, North Dakota Film Society member, has passed away. Brittney became a member of NDFS in January 2021.
Recently, Brittney was named Director of the Faculty and Professional Learning Center at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She had worked at the university for over 24 years. Brittney served in several volunteer roles with the Fargo Film Festival throughout her of involvement, including chairing several juries and also serving as Co-chair. In 2016, she was the recipient of the fest’s Margie Bailly Volunteer Spirit Award. She was scheduled to host portions of this year’s upcoming festival.
Brittney also regularly contributed as a writer for the High Plains Reader. Brittney earned an M.A. in English from Western Illinois University and an M.S. in Library and Information Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
As an avid film fan, Brittney prided herself on her film recommendations for friends, which could frequently be found on her social media profiles. In her NDFS bio, she relished in her eclectic taste in film, though she called out that she had a special affinity for horror, sci-fi, independent, and international films. Some of her favorite films included “When Harry Met Sally,” “Citizen Kane,” “Candyman,” and “Death Bed: The Bed That Eats.” She was frequently seen hosting trivia nights at the downtown Fargo VFW, oftentimes with fellow NDFS member and close friend, Matt Olien.
Brittney offered such a unique perspective to NDFS. Her passion for film will be missed in our film family. Please join us in remembering Brittney and her contributions to not just the film community in Fargo, but to the greater community as a friend and a colleague.
The 5th North Dakota Film Society Awards, to be announced in January 2024, will be given in her memory.
