BY SCOTTIE KNOLLIN
Local production company Chamber Six Media (operated by NDFS members Oscar De Leon and Kevin Ackley) will premiere a collaborative visual album short film at the historic Fargo Theatre on August 28, 2021.
Filmed across the American Southwest, “Trip 27” unfolds over five chapters - each a music video from local musician Huck.’s first full-length LP of the same name - on a psychedelic hitchhiking road trip. Stylistically and narratively sprawling, the 25-minute film weaves through various genres and styles to tell one story - written and directed by De Leon under his artist name, “guero.”
“Working with Huck. to create a visual interpretation of his album has been the collaboration of a lifetime, and I am really proud of the work we have done as a team,” says De Leon. “My goal was to create a piece of art that is equally captivating to music fans and to those who are passionate about film. My inspiration came from all over - from classic road movies to contemporary visual albums.”
Partially funded by The Arts Partnership and donors via Indiegogo, the project has been a labor of love by a collection of local artists and filmmakers. The film features the work of a number of Minnesota State University Moorhead alums: Nesto Fonseca (animation), Nick Biewer (cinematography), Ackley (editing and graphic design), MSUM Art educator Brett Lysne (poster design).
“Trip 27” will be released as an album on August 26, 2021, and will make its short film debut at the Fargo Theatre on August 28, 2021, in the main theater. The premiere screening begins at 7:00 p.m. CT. Tickets will be available at the box office on the day of the event for $10.
