The directors of the last two Academy Award winners for Best Picture will serve on the jury at the upcoming 78th Venice Film Festival. Bong Joon Ho, whose “Parasite” swept the awards season in 2019-20, will act as the jury president. Chloé Zhao, whose “Nomadland” won the Golden Lion before its Oscar win.

This year’s festival jury is made up of four women and three men: Virginie Efira, Cynthia Erivo, Sarah Gadon, Saverio Costanzo, Alexander Nanau, plus Zhao and Bong.

Each year, the jury is responsible for choosing the recipient of the fest’s Golden Lion. In addition to “Nomadland” winning, films like “Joker”, “Roma”, and “The Shape of Water” have received the award in recent years.

The 78th Venice Film Festival will run September 1 to 11. The full lineup will be announced on July 26.
