“13th” filmmaker Ava DuVernay is among the new names elected to the Academy’s Board of Governors. THe new members were announced Wednesday ahead of a planned Board meeting later in the week to discuss the plans for the 2021 Oscars, including a supposed change in ceremony date (the 93rd Academy Awards are currently scheduled for February 28, 2021).

DuVernay is just one of several first-time board members. “A Star is Born” producer Lynette Howell Taylor and casting director Debra Zane were also included on the list. The 54-person board includes 26 women and 12 persons of color, the most diverse it’s ever been.

The Academy’s Board of Governors represent each of the Academy’s 17 branches.

Among the incumbent governors re-elected are Whoopi Goldberg, Larry Karaszewski, and David Linde.

David Rubin serves as the Academy’s president. Dawn Hudson is the CEO.
