Paramount had a repeat at the weekend box office as Sonic the Hedgehog (#1) earned just over $26 million in its second weekend. The film has now crossed the $100 million mark, domestically, and has become the fourth-highest grossing video game adaptation of all time. Its high performance was enough to keep newcomers like The Call of the Wild or Brahms: The Boy II from topping the list.

Disney released 20th Century’s The Call of the Wild (#2) across the country. Starring Harrison Ford and a CGI dog, the adventure film was expected to end the weekend at number one, but earned a million short of first place. With an A- CinemaScore, the film could hold strong over the next few weeks and become an early-year top performer.

Brahms: The Boy II (#4) will not be an ongoing performer, despite its top five finish for its first weekend. The horror film starring Katie Holmes earned a C- CinemaScore, which typically means bad news for horror films. Opening outside of the top ten was Impractical Jokers: The Movie (#11). Based on the truTV series of the same name, the comedy film brought in $2.6 million from just over 350 locations. It expands next weekend to more theaters.

In limited release, Las Pildoras De Mi Novio (#14) brought in $1.4 million, while Focus’s Emma (#24) earned $230,000 from five locations. The period comedy will continue to expand over the next few weeks.

Leaving the Top Ten this weekend are family film Dolittle (#12) and poorly-reviewed comedy Downhill (#13).

Next weekend, Universal will release The Invisible Man starring Elisabeth Moss.
