It was a tragic weekend for the box office as the Top Ten films earned a combined total of $50.35 million, the lowest for a Top Ten since 1995. Disney/Pixar’s “Onward” (#1), the first=place finisher for the second week in a row, slipped nearly 73% for a finish of just $10.5 million. That’s unheard of for a brand new Disney title.

Lionsgate’s “I Still Believe” (#2) was the best performing new release, earning $9.5 million and an ‘A’ CinemaScore. That strong word-of-mouth would typically bode well for a faith-based film, but as audiences continue social distancing in lieu of COVID-19, the next few weekends shouldn’t bode too well.

The other two wide releases, Sony’s “Bloodshot” (#3) and Blumhouse’s “The Hunt” (#5), couldn’t cross the $10 million mark, either.

In limited release, the Sundance hit “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” opened to four locations in New York and Los Angeles, earning $18,000 along the way.

Leaving the Top Ten this weekend are DC’s “Birds of Prey” and reality-TV-turned-film “Impractical Jokers: The Movie”.

There are currently no new releases on the schedule until April 10th.

With the world continuing to change as COVID-19 outbreaks continue to occur across the globe, cinemas will suffer. Already, theatres in France, Italy, and Spain are closed. Cities like New York and Los Angeles are expected to follow. Support your local theatres by purchasing gift cards to use at later dates.
