Entertainment Weekly to End Print Edition

The Wall Street Journal reported DotDash Meredith CEO Neil Vogel announced to staff members on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, six magazine titles formerly owned by Meredith Corp. will end the publication of print issues. The six titles include Entertainment Weekly, a pop culture and entertainment publication in print for over 30 years.
The other titles that will cease print publication include InStyle and Health. Popular titles People and Food & Wine will continue print publication.
Vogel said in a written communication to employees: “We have said from the beginning, buying Meredith was about buying brands, not magazines or websites. It is not news to anyone that there has been a pronounced shift in readership and advertising from print to digital, and as a result, for a few important brands, print is no longer serving the brand’s core purpose. As such, we are going to move to a digital-only future for these brands, which will help us to unlock their full potential.”
Owned by Barry Diller’s IAC, DotDash acquired Meredith Corp.’s magazine business in 2021 in a deal worth $2.9 billion.
Entertainment Weekly published weekly issues since debuting in 1990. Sometimes stylized as EW, the magazine focused on entertainment media news and critical reviews for a general audience, as opposed to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, which are aimed at industry insiders. Beginning with the August 2019 issue, EW transitioned to a monthly issue model.
