A SECRET LOVE
Netflix released a trailer this week for a documentary called “A Secret Love”. The film is based on the nearly 65 year long relationship between Pat Henschel and her partner and professional baseball player Terry Donahue. The women fell in love in 1947, a time when a relationship such as theirs was not widely accepted. They kept their relationship secret until they reached their eighties when they decided to reveal their love to family and friends. On the poster for the doc, you can see Donahue wearing her baseball jersey from when she played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) depicted in the film “A League of Their Own”. Netflix will release this untold, beautiful love story on their streaming platform April 29th.

SPACESHIP EARTH
Neon has released a trailer for their documentary “Spaceship Earth” that tells the story of the Biosphere 2 human experiment done in the 90s. The film follows the scientists that created their own biosphere and how it eventually became a living disaster. The trailer touches on the cult-like characteristics of the group, the bizarre rituals they executed and eventually the negativity that sprouted between them. The documentary was unveiled at the most recent Sundance Film Festival and will be available on VOD later next month.

BAD EDUCATION
HBO shared their final, minute-long trailer for Cory Finley’s “Bad Education” this week. This movie tells the story about a true embezzlement scandal that happened at a Long Island school. The trailer shows a student meeting with Superintendent Dr. Tassone, played by Hugh Jackman. As the student struggles to pronounce the word “accelerated”, Jackman’s character becomes slightly unhinged as a montage of all his wrongdoings plays for the viewer. The rest of the cast includes Allison Janney, Ray Romano, Geraldine Viswanathan, Kathrine Narducci and Alex Wolff. “Bad Education” received a great response at TIFF which is no surprise with this top caliber cast. The film will debut on HBO this weekend.

CAPONE
Last week Vertical released the first trailer for Josh Trank’s “Capone” starring Tom Hardy as the titular gangster. The preview shows an older Alphonse Capone after his decade-long stint in prison. Hardy, to no surprise, is a force playing the ailing mobster as he spends his last bit of time on earth with his family. Capone is haunted by violent memories, but he is also haunted by the lack of memory when he is unable to remember where he stashed millions in cash. The rest of the cast includes Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Noel Fisher, Jack Lowden and Al Sapienza. Director Rian Johnson (“Knives Out”, “Looper”) was able to screen this and said, “This movie is batshit bonkers in the best possible way and believe me you’re going to want to see it.” I look forward to seeing this when it comes to VOD on May 12th.
