North Dakota is unique in that the majority of the state’s movie houses are independently owned and located in small, historic downtowns, like the Rockford Theatre in New Rockford, ND. These small-town cinemas are a beacon for the arts in the communities scattered between the state’s largest cities.

Located just over 120 miles west of Grand Forks, the Rockford Theatre first opened as the Blackstone Theatre in 1920, with seating for 272 patrons. In more recent years, the cinema has seen innovative updates, including converting its projection and sound equipment to fully digital formats.

Unfortunately, the cinema is currently closed indefinitely due to the roof collapsing. Please help the North Dakota Film Society support the Rockford Theatre through its repairs. Your donations will not only assist in covering lost revenue during the cinema’s closure, but will also serve as a foundation for future programming once the lights are on again.

Let’s get moving images back on the silver screen in New Rockford!
